JBs BBQ Sauce - Ghost PepperIt may be the end of my summer, but that doesn’t mean barbecue season is over. After all, here in Texas, barbecue season lasts for approximately 365 days. That said, tonight’s featured product is a barbecue sauce that threatens/promises to bring the heat in the best way possible. For your viewing pleasure, I’m checking out a ghost pepper BBQ sauce made by the folks at JB’s Sauces, an Ohio-based small artisan company that claims to have “the hottest BBQ sauce out there.” I’ll be the judge of that! I mean, that’s my job.

Ingredients:

Tomato Puree (tomato paste, filtered water), Apple Cider Vinegar, Molasses, Brown Sugar, Mystic Mama Ale [from Jackie O’s Pub & Brewery], Habanero Powder, Mustard, Sea Salt, Garlic Powder, Ghost Chile Powder, Coarse Black Pepper

I may be a lot of things, but one thing I’ve never been, and never will be, is a beer snob. In fact, I know almost nothing about the different types of beers, and I would much rather have a cider or fruity mixed drink in my hand than a beer. That said, I have had many delicious foods that have included beer as an ingredient, and I’ve gotten to the point where I get a little excited when I see beer listed as an ingredient. It should go without saying that I’ve never tasted Mystic Mama Ale, but JB’s seems to hold the drink in high regard, so I’ll take their word for it.

Appearance:

Dude, this is a barbecue sauce. It’s kind of orange, and is fairly thick (once you shake it, anyway). What more do you want from it?/p>

Smell and Taste:

The tomato puree hits my nostrils first, which makes this smell like a ketchup at first. However, the molasses and spices waft up soon afterwards, letting me know I’m dealing with a true barbecue sauce after all. And the flavor? It’s surprisingly sweet at first, with hints of tomato and mustard in the background. Then those peppers hit, and they hit hard.

Ratings:

FIRE
FLAVOR

The combination of habanero and ghost peppers does not hold back! This is one hot barbecue sauce, and definitely not for the weak-kneed or faint of heart. It easily hits a Madness in my book. Even better, though, is that JB’s has crafted an absolutely delicious sauce. The combination of sweet, savory, and fiery is pretty much barbecue perfection, and I’m happy to give this bad boy a Notable.

Suggested Uses:

MEAT. Shouldn’t that be obvious? Burgers, ribs, brisket, chicken, pork loins, etc. Just rub it all over that stuff.

Final Word:

I don’t know if this is truly “The hottest BBQ sauce out there,” but it damn sure is both spicy and delicious.
